Levittown

Levittown
Extenso desarrollo residencial en las afueras de Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y., EE.UU. Desarrollado entre 1946 y 1951 por la empresa Levitt and Sons, Inc., fue un ejemplo temprano de un complejo residencial completamente prediseñado y producido en serie.

Contenía miles de viviendas de bajo costo (acompañadas de centros comerciales, patios de juegos, piscinas, centros comunitarios y escuelas). Levitt repitió la fórmula en el condado de Bucks, Pa. (1951–55). El nombre Levittown se identificó con desarrollos urbanos similares construidos a través del país en el boom de la construcción de la posguerra. Aunque en algún momento fueron fuertemente rechazados, sus diseños, con sus caminos que serpentean entre exuberante vegetación, se distinguen de los generalmente monótonos y chatos proyectos de viviendas para la clase media.
